Central faced its toughest test of the young season Friday night against Suburban League Big 6 foe Lee’s Summit West.

The exams likely won’t be any more difficult after the home opener at Noyes Field agains the defending Class 5 state champions.

Lee’s Summit West’s offense gashed the Indians’ on a regular basis from the kickoff until the final whistle on their way to a 45-9 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Of the Titans’ seven scores, six were touchdowns, including the three from running back Marcus Strickland, two touchdown passes from Iowa State committed quarterback Luke Knott and a run from 1 yard out from second string quarterback Conner Hartnett.

Central hoped to pull the biggest upset of the young high school season but couldn’t match Lee’s Summit West’s offense.

“I felt like that at any time, any team could lose and I just felt like it was our time to do it,” Central senior defensive back Dre Irvin said. “But obviously it just wasn’t our night.”
