When Benton went to Smithville on Friday, the Cardinals knew it would be tough sledding.

But they might not have known just how tough that sledding would be.

The Warriors rode running back Isaac Miller to a 42-0 win over the Cardinals at Smithville High School.

“We played well defensively in the first half,” Benton coach Ben Glidewell said. “That kept us in it.

“We couldn’t do anything offensively. We couldn’t run inside, we couldn’t run outside and we had trouble throwing the ball.”

The Warriors (4-0, 2-0 MEC) were fresh off a 42-18 thumping of Savannah and weren’t going to give Benton (0-4, 0-2) any breaks either as the Midland Empire Conference slate entered Week 2.

Glidewell praised his seniors, two of which start for the Cardinals.

“All four of those seniors are quality people, and we have two special football players,” Glidewell said. “We should have performed better tonight.”

Entering halftime, the game’s outcome was still in doubt. The Warriors led 14-0, but were held scoreless in the second quarter.

Then, Miller made it his time.
