Shawnee Mission West High might have been given a second life Thursday night after its game with Olathe Northwest was postponed due to weather.

ONW held a 12-0 lead before the game was called. The game will resume Friday at 4 p.m., with 1:48 left in the first half.

The Ravens first scored on a safety after SM West quarterback Adam Rellihan had a difficult time pitching the ball. The Vikings were pinned on their own three.

Another Vikings fumble set up the Ravens only TD so far. Easton Crupper found Kyle Rinck for an 18-yard score midway through the second quarter.

Right before the two teams went into the locker room for the night Chris Diddle hit a 39-yard field goal after a false start penalty. He barely knocked through a 34-yard try, but his 39-yard attempt would have been good from 50.

The game resumed Friday at 4 p.m. and Northwest kept the momentum midway through the third quarter. West final got on the board when Rellihan dove over on a quarterback sneak with 4:55 left in the period.

After trading fumbles late in the third period the score would stay 12-7 until Rellihan ran it in from two yards out with 6:19 left in the game to make it 13-12 after a failed two-point attempt.

The Ravens were driving for the go-ahead score with under two minutes left when the Vikings defense picked off a pass and ran it back for a touchdown to make it 20-12 with 1:58 left. West’s defense held on the final drive as the Vikings moved to 2-0 on the season while Northwest falls to 1-1.

The win was Tim Callaghan’s 92nd at West moving him past legendary coach Dick Purdy for the most in West history.
