The wait is over the PrepsKC McCarthy Elite team is here. The best 28 players in the Metro on the most exclusive team in the history of the Metro.
The announcements began Thursday with the specialists and continues with a position group a day until the team is complete. Then the offensive and defensive players of the year will be announced followed by the MVP as the top player on the team.
Next we reveal the linebackers for the PrepsKC McCarthy Elite Team. Only four were chosen from what might be the deepest talent pool of any position in the Metro.
All made huge impacts for their teams and were forces to be reckoned with on Friday nights.
Below are interviews with the PrepsKC McCarthy Elite Team linebackers along with more information about their season.
Jayden Woods – Sr., Mill Valley
He started his career as an edge rusher but moved to his natural position for his senior year. He finished his senior season with 90 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 5 tackles for loss, 6 quarterback hurries, one interception and one forced fumble and was named the Sunflower League Defensive Player of the Year.
Anthony Thompson – Sr., Fort Osage
The man in the middle for the Indians finished with 132 tackles with 82 of those solo tackles. Thompson had 19 tackles for loss and four sacks to go along with two blocked kicks all while putting up almost 800 yards rushing on the offensive side after an injury to the starting tailback.
Ashton Moore – Sr., Louisburg
The senior had 80 tackles with 44 of those being solo. He also had 6.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble leading a Louisburg defense that only allowed more than 15 points twice in the season.
Theo Grace – Sr., Kearney
Anchored a Kearney defense that only allowed 3 points per game when the starters were on the field. Grace had 134 tackles with 25 of those being tackles for loss and 15 were sacks. He also had a pick six during the year for the Bulldogs who lost in the Class 4 semifinals and finished the year ranked No. 2.
