In an old-fashioned grind, it out Frontier League rock fight Spring Hill held off Louisburg 14-13 Friday night at Louisburg.

It was a game of defense as the Broncos forced two field goals on drives that went deep into its territory that ended up being the 1-point margin of victory. For Spring Hill the win gave them the Frontier League title as they end their regular season at 7-1. Louisburg falls to 7-1 losing its first regular season game since week No. 1 of the 2022 season.

Broncos coach Jason Feeback said this was a great moment for his team.

“Our guys played with a lot of soul tonight,” Feeback said. “This was a complete team win. Couldn’t be more proud of our effort.

“We had a great week of practice leading up to tonight and our guys felt like we could do some things. Louisburg’s coaches do a great job, and they have great players.”

Spring Hill got on the scoreboard first when quarterback Jordan Mill called his own number and rambled in from 7-yards out to give the Broncos a 7-0 lead with seven minutes, 26 seconds left in the first quarter.

Louisburg would then answer four minutes later when Ashton Moore dove over from the 1-yard line to make it 7-7.

Right before the half Spring Hill would set up Louisburg with good field position inside its own 40-yard line. The defense would stiffen and hold the Wildcats to a 30-yard field by Blaise Vohs to make the score 10-7. The score would stay the same heading into halftime.

Louisburg would open the half with a drive that got it to the Spring Hill 9-yard line, but the Spring Hill defense held and forced another Vohs field goal with 7:12 left in the third quarter.

“We were able to hold them to field goals on two of their drives, one of those drives started inside of our 40 due to a bad snap on our punt. Our guys were relentless and that was the key to this game.”

That would be it for Louisburg on the scoring front. Spring Hill would take the next possession and methodically and work down the field and capped off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run by Patrick Stumpff. Ryan Jackson would hit his second extra point and that would be all the Broncos would need to earn the conference title.

Spring Hill will now host Shawnee Heights next Friday in the first round of the Kansas Class 5A playoffs. Louisburg will host Bishop Miege in the 4A playoffs.
