In a battle of undefeated teams, defense ruled. Basehor-Linwood used a defensive score, to secure, a hard fought, 21-7 victory over De Soto. The defense not only scored, but forced De Soto, three times into a turnover on downs.
De Soto used misdirection all night long, out of their flex-bone set. Quarterback Drew Parks faked an outside pitch, and turned to the inside, to handoff to Jayden Lang. Lang went up the middle for a 10-yard touchdown run. Jaymin Hatfield converted the kick.
With 2:20 left in the half, the Bobcats tied the game. Carson Dixon threw a short hitch, to Nash Morrison, who made a quick move, on a defender, and then outran the De Soto defense for a 61-yard score. Colin Zimbelman kick tied the game, and the teams went to the locker room for half time.
The game changed at 7:13, of the 3rd quarter. Drew Parks was scrambling, to his left, looking downfield, when Tucker Hutchison, hit him from behind. The ball popped up into the air, and right to Jacob Sharp, who returned it 12 yards, for the pick-six. Zimbelman’s kick gave the Bobcats a seven-point lead.
The score remained there, until 1:19, left in the game. On 3rd down and 8 yards to go, from the De Soto 27, Dixon faked a run, and went over the top to Austin Adair for the touchdown. Zimbelman provided the final point of the game.
After the game Carson Dixon talked about his second touchdown pass.
“They were expecting a run,” Dixon said. “My line did a great job of holding on, Austin, (Adair) ran a great route, and a great catch to secure it.”
With the win the Bobcats move to 4-0, and they will be on the road next week, at Topeka West. De Soto falls to 3-1, and they will be home against Shawnee Heights.
