On Friday, the Washington Wildcats roared.

Behind two touchdowns each from wide receiver Darreon Baskin and quarterback Savion Stone, Washington rolled past visiting Kansas City Central 60-0 in the latest DM Injury Law Metro Matchup Game of the Week.

Washington controlled the game from beginning to end to improve its record to 4-0 on the season. The Blue Eagles dropped to 0-5.

“This is the first time in two years that Washington football played four quarters,” Wildcats head coach Cam Smith said. “It was exciting, I’m proud of them, everybody feeling good, but it's time to get locked in for Atchison now.”

Last season, Washington lost to Atchison 63-18. The Phoenix are the defending Meadowlark League champions and have won 20 straight league games since 2021.This season, Atchison is 3-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.

Against Central, Baskin scored twice as did Stone. Wildcat linebacker Mogisha Kasi had two interceptions, including a pick-6 shortly before halftime. Other Wildcats who found paydirt against Central were running backs Roman Couch and Nicholas Carter. Shon Williams returned an interception for a score as well.

“You always take lessons from a ‘L’ for sure,” first-year Central head coach Michael Klyce said. “We’ll watch film and get better.”

Washington jumped in front 6-0 thanks to Baskin’ kickoff return touchdown to start the game. He scored later on a 55-yard catch and run.

“We’ve been having trouble with blocking,” Baskin said. “But every week we just get better at blocking. They came down and just blocked for me and just had to secure the touchdown for my guys.”

Washington has seven total return touchdowns this season, according to smith. Four pick-6 scores and three kickoff or punt returns for a score. With a high scoring offense, thriving special teams and defense that hasn't allowed a point in two games, the Wildcats are on a roll.

“We’ll be back here at 7 a.m. for film,” Smith said. “It is what it is.”

Stone capped an early drive with a short touchdown run. A successful extra point kick from Miguel Garcia made the score 13-0 in the first quarter.

Couch followed with a seven-yard touchdown run less than one minute into the second quarter. Garcia’s second extra point kick put the Wildcats ahead 20-0.

And then things went haywire for a spell for Washington. First, the Wildcats committed two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on the same drive that allowed the Blue Eagles to creep into Washington territory.

Then, a touchdown and another long catch were called off due to penalties.

But Baskin restored order with a 55-yard touchdown reception from Stone. The Wildcats led 26-0 with 6 minutes left before halftime.

After Central drove the ball to the Wildcats’ 20-yard line, the defense came up with a big play. Mogisha Kasi picked off his second pass of the game and returned the interception 80 yards for a score.

A successful PAT kick from Garcia put Washington ahead 33-0 with 3:35 left in the second quarter. The interception return for a touchdown was Kasi’s first.

“I just pay attention in practice,” he said. “That’s pretty much it.”

Williams’ 37-yard interception return for a touchdown one minute into the third quarter helped push the score to 40-0.

Stone’s 52-yard dash at the end of the third quarter made it 46-0. Another short rushing score, this one a 4-yard burst from Carter put the host in front 52-0 halfway through the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats tacked on a late touchdown and two-point conversion to close out the scoring.
