Liberty North survives BS South

Packed crowd, defending champs, ranked Matchup. These would be a spectacle to see at any point in the year but to get them in week one is an absolute treat.

Defending Class 6 champs Liberty North came into this game victors 13 straight, dating their last loss back to the start of last season. Their opponent however Blue Springs South, didn't back down from the monumental task at hand.

These Jaguars did not look like the Jaguars of years past, forcing two straight 3 and outs on the

Eagles first two possessions, penalties on the Jaguars drives prevented them from doing anything of note on offense. It wasn't until the end of the first quarter that a drive past midfield was had and Liberty North capped it off with a 3-yard score from senior running back River Therrien. The PAT was missed which made the score 6-0. The eagles notched one more field goal before the half was over and although Blue Springs South put together a good drive at the end of the half the kick was blocked straight the score 9-0 at the break.

This 9-0 deficit did not scare the Jaguars at all, coming out of halftime South put together two straight 50-yard touchdown runs. The first on a busted RPO from Aiden Whilhelm and the next on a gorgeous execution on an inside zone by Kendrick Hawkins JR. LIberty North answered with a booming 49-yard field goal and our score was 14-12.

With a crucial drive ensuing 6 Darius Morgan took an inside handoff and slithered under defenders and scored a touchdown to give the Jags a potential two possession lead, however the extra point was blocked and kept the game notched at 20-12.

With his back against the wall needing a score Tillman Martin Delivered a 70-yard touchdown strike to Trashundon Neal through busted coverage down the right-side line, to the dismay of Eagles faithful he did get tripped on the 2-PT conversion. Just like that the Eagles were right back within one score.

The final drive for Blue Springs South ended in disaster with Liberty North’s Mason Tavares strip sacking the QB and giving the Eagles the ball once again in extreme plus territory. With 10 seconds left and 4th down ensuing all Bleu Renfroe had to do was nail a 25-yard field goal for the win, and it was right down main street.

The Eagles extend their winning streak to 14 and the Jaguars start 0-1 for the second straight year.
