In a year that featured big time performances by receivers across the Metro Blue Valley Southwest’s Alex Parks has won the Otis Taylor as the top wide receiver or tight end in the Metro.

The award is given out annually starting in 2007 by the Thomas A. Simone Foundation. It is the first of five awards that are being revealed over the next 10 days finishing with the Thomas A. Simone Award given annually to the top all-around player in the Kansas City Metro. That award will be handed out Dec. 3 at the winner’s high school.

Parks was a big part of the Timberwolves record-setting offense that helped the team finish 10-2. The senior finished with 1,381 yards on 83 receptions. He scored 20 touchdowns and finished with 1,819 yards as a receiver and returner.

Southwest finished the year 10-2 with only a regular season loss to Bishop Miege and a 48-47 loss to Mill Valley in the Class 5A semifinals. Mill Valley would go on to win its fifth straight championship with a 62-37 win over Kapaun Mt. Carmel.
