Grain Valley 24, Blue Springs South 21
Grain Valley scored with 28 seconds left on quarterback Caleb Larson’s 5-yard run to beat Blue Springs South in a back-and-forth, tight ballgame Friday night 24-21.

The Eagles (3-2) used a strong ground game and a sound defense as the winning formula for their victory, chugging for 269 yards on 41 carries. They were led by the aforementioned Larson who had 174 of those yards on 23 attempts. In addition to the winning touchdown, he also scored on a 51-yard run in the first quarter.

On the defensive side of the ball, Grain Valley pulled in two interceptions and a fumble, and they also had three sacks and five tackles for loss.

The Jaguars (3-2) attacked through the air. Quarterback Cash Parker was 18 of 33 for 314 yards and a touchdown. Tommy Lapour had five catches and 124 yards, and Malachi Howard had four catches, 114 yards and a touchdown.

Liberty North 41, Park Hill 14
Liberty North struck early, struck often and struck quickly in their battle with Park Hill Friday night. After jumping out to a 34-0 first quarter lead and then a 41-0 lead by halftime, the Eagles went on to rout the Panthers 41-14 to keep their record perfect at 5-0. Park Hill fell to 1-4.

The Eagles used a balanced running and passing attack throughout the first half, but by racing out to such a huge lead, they were able to take their foot off the throttle of their high-powered offense a bit. The offense held the ball for just under 13 minutes throughout the game.

Quarterback Sam Van Dyne had a very efficient night going 8 for 10 for 197 yards and four touchdowns. He was able to connect with four different receivers, all of which scored a touchdown, Xavier Horn, MicahJo Barnett, Keelan Smith and Joe Hall. Barnett also ran for two more scores on 139 yards rushing for the night.

But let’s don’t overlook the defense which kept Park Hill’s signal caller Kedrick Bell on the run all night. He was sacked four times and picked off once.

Park Hill scored two second-half touchdowns, both engineered by Bell. He ran for a 34-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and then Bryce Lisaka for a 7-yard strike in the fourth quarter.

Pleasant Hill 49, Odessa 7
With Pleasant Hill’s 49-7 thrashing of Odessa Friday night, the Roosters sit atop the Missouri River Valley West Conference at 3-0, 5-0 overall. Their next three games are all against conference foes Oak Grove, Center and Warrensburg, and it will determine whether or not they can win the conference title.

Running back Brayden Bush carried much of the load for the Roosters, running for 213 yards on 17 carries and three scores. His running mate, Dylan Kauffman, ran for 101 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns. Even with all the yardage on the ground, quarterback Easton Roe still maned to through for 128 yards and a touchdown to Mason Hicks.

Odessa, (3-2, 2-1) which had been averaging 49.5 points per game coming into this contest with Pleasant Hill managed just the one touchdown, a Zane Palmer 3-yard run in the third quarter. Quarterback Douryun D’obron was 13 of 21 for 158 yards.

Smithville 42, Excelsior Springs 8
Smithville wasted little time in asserting itself Friday night in a 42-8 drubbing of Excelsior Springs in a Suburban Blue Conference tilt. Two short touchdown runs in the first quarter were a sign of things to come for the Warriors, now 4-1 over and 2-1 in the conference.

All but one of Smithville’s scores were under 10 yards. With runs of 2, 3, 4, 1 and 2 yards, the only scoring play longer was an 18-yard pass from Andrew Hedgecorth to Max McKenzie in the second quarter. Caleb Donnell ran for two touchdowns, and Hedgecorth, Jayden Bennett and Preston Rash each ran for one.

Defensively, the Warriors gave up a total of 109 yards in the game, but what was most impressive is they gave up a total of -2 passing yards.

Excelsior Springs (1-4 and 1-2) was able to score in the waning seconds of the ball game on a Chance Moreland 7-yard run.

Belton 52, William Chrisman 7
Belton and William Chrisman both waited until their fifth game of the season to play their first Suburban White Conference game, and the Pirates took full advantage of the opportunity in a 52-7 victory over the Bears Friday night.

The Pirates (3-2, 1-0) took a 38-7 halftime lead and never looked back, adding two more scores in the third quarter.

Javon Minor touched the ball 17 times for 146 yards and a touchdown for the Pirates. The ground game churned out a total of 272 yards and four touchdowns. Jace Winkert, Greg Lyles and CJ Freeman also saw the endzone. In addition, Lyles had five catches for 67 yards and a score.

Quarterback Mitchell Cory scored for the Bears (2-3, 0-1) on a 1-yard run in the second quarter. It was a tough night for the Chrisman offense which possessed the ball for just under eight minutes for the game. Belton controlled it for more than 40 minutes.
