Bishop Ward 35, Turner 0
Bishop Ward scored 19 third quarter points to help put away Turner Friday night in a 35-0 shutout. The ballgame was still in doubt at halftime as the Cyclones (3-1) led 9-0. But even that wasn’t what was most impressive about Bishop Ward’s performance.

The defense allowed -15 yards of total offense on 40 plays, zero on the ground and -15 through the air. In addition, they had an interception and two fumble recoveries.

In the third quarter when everything turned for the Cyclones, they scored on a 1-yard run from Jayvion Braden, a 2-yard run from Roderick Strong and 27-yard pass from Jashaun Holliday to Jalen Pickens. It increased their lead to 28-0.

Holliday ended the night 12 of 17 for 139 yards and two scores. Brice Johnson Jr. rand 14 times for 105 yards.

It was a tough night all around for Turner which fell to 0-4 on the season.

St. James 24, St. Thomas Aquinas 20
St. James pulled off the stunner Friday night upsetting St. Thomas Aquinas 24-20 and holding off their fourth-quarter comeback in an exciting Eastern Kansas League matchup. The Thunder, trailed only after the first quarter 7-6, earned their first victory of the season to go 1-3 overall and in the league. The loss drops Aquinas to 3-1 overall and in the league as well.

In that first quarter, the Saints struck first on a Sean Carroll 5-yard run, but St. James was able to bounce back with a Blake Boydston to Jonh Niesen 43-yard strike. The two-point conversion failed. It was the last time Aquinas would lead.

The Thunder took control in the second quarter, first with a Kylar Haarhuis 34-yard field goal, then a Boydston to Ayden Brady 7-yard touchdown pass. But the Saints weren’t going away.

Carroll scored on another run, this time from 21 yards out to cut the lead to 17-14. But St. James and Boydston weren’t through. He punched it in himself on a 1-yard keeper to put the Thunder up 24-14. But right back came the Saints. With 24 seconds left, it was Carroll again, this time for seven yards. The two-point conversion was no good.

Boydston finished the night 17 of 24 for 250 yards and two passing touchdowns. His top target Niesen had seven receptions for 206 yards.

For Aquinas, Carroll did most of the damage, rushing for 160 yards on 22 attempts and the three touchdowns.

Topeka Seaman 50, Lansing 32
Topek Seamon racked up a whopping 674 yards of total offense on 90 plays, 440 rushing and 234 passing to beat the Lansing Lions Friday night 50-32 during their United Kansas Conference game.

The Vikings led just 28-18 at the intermission and 35-25 after three quarters but were able to pull away with two fourth-quarter touchdowns.

Bryson Vawter (22 carries, 159 yards, one touchdown), Jack Bloom (18, 150, two) and Max Huston (13, 92, two) led the ground assault for the Vikings to help improve their record to 3-1 over all and in the conference. Huston, who was also under center, had 17 completions on 29 attempts for 234 yards and one touchdown. Callen Barta was his number one target, snagging 12 balls for 122 yards.

For Lansing (1-4, 1-4), quarterback Dalton Jorgensen was spreading the ball across six different receivers with Lexton Grafke being is go-to guy catching 9 for 93 yards and two scores. But Jorgensen did have three picks in the game, none more costly than the one early in the first quarter that was returned for a touchdown by Gabe Hernandez for the Vikings.
