It took four weeks and a late touchdown with just 11 seconds left but Blue Springs has its first win of the season 34-32 over Fort Osage.

The Wildcats led by 18 at the half but found themselves trailing 32-28 with one minute and 18 seconds left after Fort Osage’s Greg Menne four Ryver Peppers for a 53-yard touchdown. Blue Springs would march down the field and take the lead for good when Donovan George dove over from the win for the winning score.

The victory moves Blue Springs to 1-3 on the season as Fort Osage falls to 2-2.

Blue Springs controlled the first half on the strength of three Sal Caldarella touchdown passes. The junior hit Tyler Fiala on a 41-yard score with 3:44 left in the first quarter. Caldarella hit Kaden Lutjen-Williams on a 14 yard scoring pass and a 15 yard scoring pass to complete the first half scoring for Blue Springs.

Fort Osage couldn’t find the end zone in the first half but did get on the scoreboard with 9:41 left in the first half on a 42-yard field goal by Xander Sheperd.

Fort Osage cut the lead to 21-10 midway through the third on a 49-yard touchdown run by Peppers. The Indians would then take the lead on back to back fourth quarter touchdowns on a Menne to Larenzo Fenner 10-yard touchdown pass and Peppers 7-yard run with 5:08 left in the game.

Blue Springs answered three minutes later on Caldarella’s fourth TD pass of the game when he found Eli Youman 17-yards out with 2:08 remaining in the game.

Then the Wildcats and Indians traded the final scores to give Blue Springs the win.

Blue Springs will now host Blue Valley (2-1) while Fort Osage takes on Raytown (3-1).
