It was another big night for Blue Valley Northwest running back Grant Stubblefield. The senior rushed for 300 yards and four touchdowns on 34 carries to lead the Huskies to a 48-24 win over Blue Valley.
The runaway win looked like it was going to be a back-and-forth game as the teams traded scores in the first half. Northwest led 27-24 at the break but the game was tied at 7, 14 and 21 heading into the break.
From that point on the Huskies would score three more times and go on to the 24-point victory. The win moves Northwest to 2-1 on the season. Blue Valley suffered its first loss and stands at 2-1.
The game began with an early Stubblefield touchdown that gave the Huskies a 7-0 lead. The Tigers answered right back when Alec Swarens took the ensuing kickoff 78-yards for a touchdown to tie the game at 7.
Northwest grabbed the lead again when Connor White found Gavin Hoffman from 11-yards out to make it 14-7 with two minutes 34 seconds left in the first quarter.
Blue Valley wasted little time again as John Price ripped off a 77-yard TD run to tie it again at 14-14 with 2:16 remaining in the first.
Just 42 seconds later the Huskies took the lead again 21-14 on a Connor White to Jason White 78-yard touchdown pass with 1:34 left in the first.
Northwest would get one more TD before half on a 48-yard run by Stubblefield and Blue Valley would get a touchdown catch from Andre Davis and a field goal from Maguire Richman to make it 27-24 Northwest at the half.
The second half was all Northwest as Stubblefield scored two more TDs on a 5-yard and 2-yard run and a Connor White to Jason White 59-yard TD pass and catch.
Blue Valley Northwest will travel to Missouri Class 6 power Lee’s Summit North next week while Blue Valley heads to Blue Springs.
