Mid-Buchanan’s second straight run through the state playoffs reached an end in a 37-14 loss to Valle Catholic in the Class 1 semifinals on Saturday in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

The Dragons gave up 28 points in the third quarter, half coming through the hands of Warriors junior running back Cory Stoll.

Mid-Buchanan struggled to gain offensive momentum against the Valle Catholic and didn’t score until the third quarter.

Junior quarterback Javan Noyes helped the Dragons to both scores, rushing for the first while connecting with junior running back T.J. Runyan on the second.

It was not enough to launch a second-half comeback, however, ending Mid-Buchanan’s season in the state semifinals for the second consecutive season.

Noyes finished the game 8-for-17, throwing for 77 yards. Runyan led the Dragons with 79 yards on nine yards, including a 79 yard touchdown.

Noyes fumbled the ball into the endzone on the Dragons’ third snap of the game, accounting for a safety.

The Warriors led 2-0 until senior quarterback Chase Dunlap scored on a three-yard carry, making it 9-0.

Dunlap also threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Owen Viox. With the addition of Stolls’ two touchdowns, Mid-Buchanan trailed 30-0 at halftime.

The Dragons recovered a fumble inside Valle Catholic’s 30-yard line on the first drive of the second half. A miscue on a fake-play snap took the advantage backwards, forcing fourth-and-35.

Noyes began to make plays after, driving Mid-Buchanan to the Warriors’ one-yard line in the final three minutes of the third quarter.

One play later, he ran it in while also doing the same for a two-point conversion. He cut Valle Catholic’s lead to 23 points at the beginning of the fourth, hitting T.J. Runyan in the endzone.
