For all but the last 2:04 of the second half, the Nixa Eagles offense had been shut down by the Lee’s Summit North defense.

That all changed on the final drive of the night for the Eagles when Adam McKnight found Wyatt Vincent on an 18-yard touchdown strike with 10 seconds left in the game.

The score gave Nixa a 21-20 victory over the Broncos in a Missouri Class 6 quarterfinal.

The touchdown was set up by a 35-yard scramble by McKnight which took the Eagles from midfield and without much hope to inside the Bronco red zone.

It was the first offensive action the Eagles had seen for much of the second half, which was actually highlighted by the Bronco defense and a pair of interceptions.

While the second half was punctuated by defense, both teams' offenses got off to quick starts.

Lee’s Summit North found the end zone after a prolonged drive when Mickhi Mitchell took a broken play and scored on an 8-yard quarterback keeper with 7:02 left in the first quarter.

Nixa responded with their own long drive, capped off by their own quarterback keeper from McKnight.

Tied 7-7 early in the second quarter, Nixa forced the Broncos to fumble deep in their own territory. McKnight would again find the end zone to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead.

Lee’s Summit North would respond when Quade Chatmon ran the ball in from 27 yards out.

The Broncos would tack on one more score in the first half when Noah Kent banged in a 35-yard field goal, giving North the 17-14 halftime lead.He would add a second field goal in the third quarter.

Lee’s Summit North finishes its season with an 11-1 record.

Nixa moves on to the Class 6 semifinals where it will face Kirkwood.
