Odessa is the Coaching Staff of the Week

Football is the ultimate team sport. It takes everyone on the roster to win a game on Friday nights. Coaching a football team is the same. While the head coach gives the interview, and the record is next to his name it’s not the work of just one person that brings home victories.

This season PrepsKC and DM Injury Law will honor those assistant coaches who do the little things behind the scenes that not only lead to wins but develop athletes not just as players but people too.

Each week head coaches from across the Metro will nominate their staff for the honor. PrepsKC will select one staff to have their story told and be honored for their work.

This week’s DM Injury Law Coaching Staff of the Week is from Odessa. The Bulldogs beat Harrisonville 28-25 to move to 5-4 and clinch the top spot in their district. Odessa earned the victory down two starters and with only 29 players dressed for the game vs. Harrisonville.

Bulldogs Coach Mark Thomas said his staff of Barry Blank, Chuck Clemens, Kiefer Kratz, Collin Baumann, and Will Fox did a great job of putting together a game plan and executing a great week of practice.

“I felt our team utilized key plays offensively, defensively, and in the kicking game to give us the slight advantage we needed to win the game,” Thomas said. “Just as our players play both ways, our coaches have to coach both sides of the ball and the kicking game which means their time to prepare is double to what most coaching staffs have to do.

“Our coaching staff does a tremendous job working with our players on and off the field on a daily basis.  Our players trust our coaching staff to put them in position to be successful each and every week.  There is no question our 66-14 win/loss record since 2018 is not a coincidence with our coaching staff which is when the foundation of this staff was first formed. I am blessed and proud to be associated with a fine group of men.”

To nominate your staff for this honor, send nominations to PrepsKC’s Dion Clisso at dion@prepskc.com by midnight Sunday each week.
