Finding positives

Southeast needs something good to happen on the football field. Head coach William Williams said as much after the Knights lost to Lincoln Prep a week ago.

The game, a 46-0 defeat, marked the fifth time Southeast has lost in five games this season. The prior week, the Knights were on the wrong end of a one-point loss to East.

“It’s tough because they keep ending up on the wrong side of the wins and losses column,” Williams said. “I've got a couple of guys that are serious about it and others that are still learning.”

On Friday, Southeast will test its mettle on the road at Northeast. The matchup is the DM Injury Law Game of the Week.

The Knights, 0-5, have lost twice in Interscholastic League play. Northeast is 1-6 overall and 1-0 in the IL. The Vikings only win was a 68-14 thumping of East. The Bears (1-7, 1-2) clipped the Knights 25-24 on Oct. 4.

A winless start for Southeast is “tough for them, I know,” Williams said. “It’s hard. It’s different. You just want to see them do better. I need them to have some positive vibes in their life. So it's real tough because they are not feeling the positive energy. That’s where it’s tough for me.”

The Knights will travel to Northeast in search of its first win. Williams said his team is closer to victory than the players may even realize.

“They are a little tick away,” he said. “They just have to grow a little bit.”
