Time to look back at Week 4

Welcome to Five From Friday our weekly feature that highlights some of the best quotes, notes, stats and performances of the games Friday night.

Quote of the night
“It feels great. We fought all game. There’s nothing better than coming back. We had a bad first half, obviously, but we’re shored ourselves up, got the energy up and got the win.” – Mill Valley junior defensive lineman after the Jaguars 31-23 come from behind win over Lawrence Free State.

Stat line of the night
Brayden Layman, quarterback, Lee’s Summit – The senior had a big night in the Tigers 39-33 win over Liberty North. He finished with 346 yards and two touchdowns on 19 of 32 passing to lead Lee’s Summit to its third win of the season.

Highlight of the night
It’s always fun to get clips from all of the different web streams from around the Metro. It’s even better when high school broadcasters are able to channel their enthusiasm into a good broadcast. Blue Valley North was hosting Blue Valley Southwest and it turned out to be a back and forth game. North trailed 14-7 when the Mustang’s Frankie Tryban broke through for a 78-yard score. North student George Heistand was on the call.

Tyrband’s big run

Team of the night
Pembroke Hill – The Raiders moved to 4-0 with a 34-20 win over St. Michael. Pembroke Hill’s offense got back in gear after beating KIPP Legacy 2-0 the week before. The 4-0 start is the best for the Raiders since starting 11-0 in 2018.

Big Winner (s)
St. Thomas Aquinas - The Saints schedule is one of the toughest in the Metro and all they have done is go 3-0 to start the season. Aquinas has done this with double digit new starters after winning a state title last year.
