Platte County went on the road, came away with a 28-13 victory over Fort Osage. The Pirates were led by junior quarterback, Rocco Marriott, who had a hand in all four of their scores.

Fort Osage got on the board first, thanks to their special teams. After punting to the Pirates, Anthony Thompson, recovered a muffed punt, giving Fort Osage the ball on the Pirate 15-yard line. Johnathan Ross threw a 16-yard strike, to Isaac Woodward, who out jumped the Pirate defense.

Platte County tied the game, with under a minute left, in the first quarter. Marriott, got under center and scored on a 1-yard QB sneak. Jackson Goodale converted the conversion, tying the game at 7-7.

With 1:35 left in the half, Marriott was flushed out of the pocket, and moved to his left, and launched a long pass, down the middle of the field, to Braiden Stevens. Catching the ball in stride, Stevens split the safeties and went 79 yards for the score. Goodale’s kick, had the Pirates up 14-7 at the half.

Marriott went up over the top again. This time, Tres Baskerville, got behind the defense, and went 53 yards, for the score.

The final Pirates touchdown, was the second time, Marriott, and Stevens, connected. This one was from 11 yards out. Goodale, converted his fourth point after.

Fort Osage did score on the final play of the game. Ross hit running back Ryver Peppers, leaking out of the backfield. Peppers tip-toed down the sideline, for a 16-yard score of the game.

After the game, Pirates head coach, Bill Utz, talked about his team, starting with the defense. “Our defense has been great all year,” Utz said. “They are the heart of our team. We are able to put up some numbers, on offense, because our defense has been putting us, in really good spots. We have a lot of seniors on defense, they’ve been playing with a lot of heart, a lot of pride. They did an amazing job, against a very good offensive team, with Peppers in the backfield.”

When Utz, was asked about his offense, he had similar kind words.

“Rocco had a nice night, and got the ball where it needed to be,” Utz said. “Our receivers were able to under some balls, we were able to get the matchups we wanted, and they took advantage of it. We were able to get a couple of home runs, and it went well.”

The Pirates moved their record to 3-0 and will be home next week to host Washburn. The loss dropped Fort Osage to a record of 1-2, and they will be home next week, against Truman.
