The De Soto Wildcats hoisted the United Kansas Conference trophy, after 31-21 victory over the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats.

The Wildcats got off to a fast start on the legs of Carson Miller. The quarterback scored on the first offensive play of the game, when he decided to keep the ball on a triple option play.  78 yards later he had the first points of the game. Misael Calderon converted the kick, and that quickly the Wildcats led by 7-0.

After the Wildcat defense forced a punt after three plays, Miller ran the same play, this time for 76 yards for the score. The Wildcats were not finished scoring in the quarter just yet, Miller went to the air and connected with Ryan Schottler, for a 9-yard score. Calderon converted his third kick of the quarter, and the Wildcats led 21-0.

The Bobcats scored with :05 left in the first quarter, when Brant Wilson, took a jet-sweep around right end for a 4-yard TD run. Lake Harrington was good on the point after, and at the end of the quarter, the Wildcats led 21-7.

Both teams had problems hanging on to the ball in the second quarter, and the only scoring was a 27-yard field goal, by Calderon. The Wildcats led at the intermission 24-7.

The Bobcats capped off a long drive, after the half, when Brady VanDonge, connected with Brant Wilson, for a 5-yard scoring play. Harrington’s kick made it a 10-point game, 24-14.

Miller scored his third rushing touchdown of the game, on a 1 yard run, following his offensive line, on a QB sneak.

The Bobcats found the end zone with 6:34 left in the game. Again, it was Wilson, this time it was an 8 yard score in the left corner. Harrington’s kick were the final points of the game.

De Soto fielded, the onside kick, and held the ball for the final 5:32 of the game. Wildcats head coach Brian King praised his offensive lineman, after the game.

“Offensive line coach (Mark) Gastelum does a great job getting them ready to run the flex-bone,” King said. “The linemen’s favorite play is the quarterback sneak, and we ran it three times to seal the game. It’s not always pretty, but we’ll take it.”
