Conference positioning on the line

Teams in the newly-formed Meadowlark League have fought hard this season. A log jam in the standings has surfaced as we reach the end of the regular season. And hardware is still on the line.

Atchison has held the fort all season, but Sumner, Topeka Highland Park, Washington and Wyandotte have all proved a tough out this year. Schlagle and Harmon have only one win between them.

On Friday, Washington will host Topeka Highland Park in the DiPasquale Moore PrepsKC Metro Matchup. The Bulldogs might want to have their track shoes near. Highland Park (5-2, 4-1) is as explosive as any team in the state and has lost just one game in the Meadowlark League.

The Scots play fast and have scored more than 60 points four times. Highland Park scored 56 points in a Week 6 loss against undefeated Atchison.

With a win, the Scots could finish in a first-place tie in the Meadowlark with Atchison (7-0, 5-0), which travels to Wyandotte (2-5, 2-3).  If Atchison tops the Bulldogs, the Phoenix will claim the league title outright.

If Washington beats Highland Park, the Wildcats (3-4, 3-2) would finish in a three-way tie for second place with Highland Park and Sumner (5-2, 4-2).
