Continued improvement

Through four weeks, Wyandotte has one win. But don't let the won-loss record fool you, the Bulldogs have bite and have lost three games by 15 points or less.

Harmon, on the other hand, is winless. In fact, the Hawks next score will be their first. This season!

Wyandotte will face Harmon in the DiPasquale Moore PrepsKC Metro Matchup. The Bulldogs are battle tested. A 13-point loss to Topeka Highland Park was followed by a loss to Rusking. The Bulldogs got a good 25-10 win over Schlagle but came up short to Sumner 27-26 last week.

Close isn't good enough. But Wyandotte is a “very tough team,” head coach Marcus Vaughn said. “We need to get healthy, and we will see where we go,” he said.

Shaun Carter, a dual threat at quarterback and defensive back, is averaging 11 yards per carry and 100 yards passing per game, Vaughn said. He is one of the team's best playmakers.

“We also have Johnathon Atty at DB who at 6-2 has shut down one side of the field,” Vaughn said.

Keyon Anderson, Johnathon Villegas, and Victor Lima are also doing an outstanding job, Vaughn said.

Harmon has been outscored 281-0 this season. The Ls have not been pretty. The Hawks have given up 55, 80, 72 and 74 points the first month of the season. But you won't find them making excuses or looking for a way out, head coach Keith O'Neal said.

“We pride ourselves in buying into the philosophy I am establishing here at Harmon called the No-X Mentality,” O'Neal said. “Within this philosophy one of our core principles is no excuses.”

O'Neal knew the lay of the land when he took over at Harmon. It is not a challenge he takes lightly.

“We understand that we are building a program from the ground up,” O'Neal said. “Every week we come to work trying to find a way to improve from the week before. We always challenge the challenge, another core principle of the No-X Mentality philosophy.”

Losing record aside, Vaughn is confident the Bulldogs will show well this Friday.

“We are just trying to get better as a team and work on correcting some mistakes we are making,” Vaughn said.
