Quote of the night
“All game they had been kicking it deep, but on the one before that, they didn’t kick it as deep. So, I thought that if I get the chance to return it, I’m going to go.” Basehor-Linwood’s Brant Willison talking about his 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The return opened the second half and gave the Bobcats a 28-13 lead in a game they would go on to win 47-42 over Tonganoxie.

Stat line of the night
Jacorey Love, running back, Center – The junior had a big night for the Yellowjackets in their 42-7 win over rival Lincoln College Prep. Love finished the night with 267 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries as Center moved to 2-0 on the season.

Call of the night
It was a showdown of defending champions as St. James Academy hosted Blue Valley Northwest. It was a close game at the start of the fourth quarter with Northwest leading 20-14. That’s when Grant Stubblefield wouldn’t be denied extending the Huskies lead.

Team of the night
Kearney – The Bulldogs kept its early-season momentum going with an impressive 39-17 win at Fort Osage. Kearney ran an onside kick to start the game grabbing the early momentum jumping out to a 29-3 lead. The Bulldogs never took their foot off the pedal to move to 2-0 on the season.

Big Winner (s)
North Platte and Topeka Highland Park – North Platte beat Maysville 20-0 and Topeka Highland Park defeated Wyandotte 60-47. North Platte’s win was its first since the next to last game of the 2019 season and ended a 22-game losing streak. Highland Park had not won since 2014 and ended a 65-game losing streak. Congratulations to both programs.
