Atchison went on the road and overcame their own mistakes to hang on for a 21-20 win, against Washington.

Atchison scored on their first possession of the game. Running back Jesse Greenly scored on a 6-yard run. Aiden Battle converted the kick, and the score was 7-0.

Washington answered when Savyon Powell connected with Reshad Barker with a 15-yard touchdown pass. Maximilian Borner nailed the point after, and the score was tied.

Parker scored again, when he intercepted a tipped pass and went 54 yards to put Washington ahead 14-7.

Midway in the second quarter Atchison looked to tie the game. They went for it on 4th down and 2 from the Washington 5-yard line. Linebacker, Cameron Allen split the gap between the center and the guard and stripped the ball before the handoff. The half ended without any more scoring.

Atchison first four possessions of the second half, consisted of a punt, and three fumbles. The last of these fumbles led to another Washington score, Powell scored on a 6-yard keeper. The point after was blocked and Washington was up, 20-7.

Atchison refused to give in. Trey Carter scored on a quarterback sneak, from the 1-yard line. With the kick, Atchison trailed by 6.

The 4th quarter belonged to Atchison running back Jesse Greenly. With 5:30 left in the game, Greenly scored from 16 yards and with Battle’s kick, they had lead for good. When a Washington 4th down pass, fell to the ground, all that was left was for Atchison to go into victory formation, and take a knee.

After the game, Purdy, talked about the team being behind for most of the game, “We weren’t nervous at all, we knew we could come back. All positive.”

Greenly echoed his quarterback. “We just had to focus, we made a bunch of silly mistakes in the first half.”

The win moved Atchison’s record to 7-1 overall, including, 5-0 in league. Washington dropped to 3-4.
