The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their Coach of the Week honors. The awards go to Blue Valley Coach Allen Terrell (Kansas) and Liberty North Coach Greg Jones (Missouri).

As a result of this honor, both schools will receive a $500 player health and safety grant from the Hunt Family Foundation. Additionally, both coaches will be presented congratulatory footballs autographed by Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and a certificate recognizing their selection. Both coaches are now qualified for the Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award, which will be voted on later this fall. The Eric Driskell Coach of the Year Award is selected by a panel comprised of the Missouri and Kansas Boards from the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association.

Blue Valley continued its winning streak with a 31-28 come from behind win over Bishop Miege. The victory is the fifth-straight after opening the season with a loss. Terrell said it was great for the program to earn this award.

“It is always an honor to be recognized by such a great organization,” Terrell said. “Like any other award in our program, this is all about our players and coaching staff. In a week when I was not my best, they found a way to win against a quality opponent. I’m super proud of our players and staff for their preparation and for rising to the task in a tough environment.”

Liberty North beat Lee’s Summit North 38-35 to move to 5-1 on the season. The win kept the Eagles at the top of the Suburban Gold Conference and this week they moved into the No. 1 spot in the Class 6 Missouri Media Rankings for the first time in school history.

Jones said this was a team award through and through.

“I know it is called coach of the week, but to me it is more ‘team of the week,’” Jones said. “It takes a great effort from the players and assistant coaches to win this honor.”

In its 25th season, the 2021 High School Coach of the Week is a joint initiative of the Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League. This program is designed to recognize and reward Kansas City area high school coaches for superior performance on a weekly basis while honoring individuals who are shaping today’s youth and tomorrow’s leaders.
