Quote of the night

"They've come leaps and bounds from last year. Still got a ways to go, but this is a good start for them." – Southeast coach Julius Foster after his team beat Northeast 34-16 to finish the regular season 4-4 after going 1-8 last year.

Stat line of the night

Tyler Bowden, RB, Tonganoxie – The senior had another big night with 295 yards and five TDs on 19 carries in the Chieftains 49-7 win over Ottawa.

Call of the night

Blue Springs trailed Rockhurst 21-13 in the second quarter after giving up back to back to back touchdowns to the Hawklets. Lamana Tapusoa decided to get the Wildcats back in the game in just one play. Vision Sports Rob Evans was on the call of Tapusoa’s kickoff return

Tapusoa takes it all the way

Team of the night

Paola – The Panthers rolled rival Louisburg 49-7 to finish the regular season 8-0 for the second consecutive year. Paola earned the No. 1 seed in the Kansas Class 4A East bracket after finishing its perfect regular season.

Big Winner

Shawnee Mission Northwest – The Cougars beat Bishop Miege 27-24 to earn a good non-conference win heading into the postseason. Northwest was able to take advantage of the flexibility caused by Covid game cancellations to break free from the restrictive Sunflower League scheduling and play both Miege and St. Thomas Aquinas this year. The Cougars will be a better team for playing the best competition it could find instead of the same schools in a restrictive league.
