Welcome to Five From Friday our weekly feature that highlights some of the best quotes, notes, stats and performances of the games Friday night.

Quote of the night

“He’s got great vision. He’s got great speed. Then once he gets into the open, he’s hard to bring down. He’s a hard runner. He did a great job and it showed in the second half.” – Tonganoxie coach Al Troyer talking about running back Cooper Cunningham who had 234 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the Chieftains 21-12 win over Piper.

Stat line of the night

Call of the night

Gardner-Edgerton ran all over Olathe Northwest winning 51-7. Their second TD of the game when Jakob Renaud took the ball around the right side at the 50-yard line and took it all the way for the score. 810 Varsity’s Ryan Ragland was on the call.

Team of the night

Platte County – The Pirates shutout Smithville who entered the game 5-0 while scoring at least 40 points in every game this season. The win is a big head to head victory and could have a lot to say about district seeding in the postseason.

Big Winner

Lawrence – The Chesty Lions handled a 4-0 Shawnee Mission Northwest 50-21 to move to 5-0 on the season. After finishing 2018 with just one win Lawrence looks like it could be one of the best teams in Kansas 6A this season.
