The Olathe West Owls are one of five schools that received Riddell’s InSite technology, through a partnership between Riddell, PrepsKC, and The McCarthy Auto Group. This partnership is in its fifth season and has helped bring InSite technology to 28 schools in the Kansas City area.

The Owls received five InSite conversion kits and Head Coach TJ O’Neill noticed the benefits of the technology right away.

“The primary benefit for us is to have data on the hits we don’t see; the hits that register in the middle of a pile or contact situations not involving the ball,” O’Neill said. “Some examples would be hits taken by offensive linemen, defensive linemen and fullbacks not visible in the open field.

“We have had a few alerts this year. Each instance was checked out and athletes were cleared to return to participation. The technology allows us to receive data immediately. With the data, we can assess each occurrence before letting the player return to action. This assessment helps us to continue to promote safe play among our team.”

The InSite System is not just an impact response system. It now includes InSite Training Tool, a smart helmet platform that monitors and analyzes every impact that players receive to identify training opportunities to proactively influence player behavior.

The Owls have won two straight and will look to make it three in a row when they travel to Olathe South tonight.
