The Smithville Warriors scored three touchdowns in a three-minute span surrounding halftime to come back and down the Central Indians 41-13 in Friday’s season opener.

Despite two highlight-reel touchdown connections between Taylor Wells and Landon Pasley that pushed Central (0-1) to a 13-7 lead, Smithville answered with a pair of scores in the final two minutes of the first half to regain a 20-13 lead. Garrett Thompson opened the second half with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to extend the lead and begin the rout.

Later in the third quarter, a bad snap led to punter Zack Williamson being ruled down on his own 24-yard line for going down to a knee while picking up the ball.

Senior quarterback Kellen Simoncic responded with his second touchdown pass of the night, finding Thompson in traffic, to extend the lead to 34-13.

Smithville opened the scoring on a 2-yard run on a pitch to Isaac Miller, who beat a swarm of defenders to the pylon on fourth down.
