Back to all Experts

Sports injuries often come at unexpected times, and packed schedules can make appointments difficult to come by. That’s why The University of Kansas Health System Sports Medicine and Performance Center is back with our Saturday morning walk-in clinic for sports injuries for fall 2023.

From August 26 to November 18, walk-in care will be available 8-11 a.m. Saturdays walk-in care is available for orthopedic injuries throughout the year: Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. (closed holidays).  Both orthopedic and sports medicine walk-in care is located at I-435 & Nall, 10730 Nall Ave., Suite 200, in Overland Park.

No appointment or referral is necessary for either weekday orthopedic walk-in care or Saturday morning sports medicine. Patients will be treated on a first-come, first-serve basis by the same experts who care for the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.

"There are a lot of events on Thursday and Friday and sometimes athletes can’t come in during the week,” says David Smith, MD. “Saturday morning at 8 o’clock we’re waiting for them. We have an X-ray tech, a physician and clinical staff. And we can take care of almost any sports injury in that clinic, including concussions.”

On weekdays and Saturdays, an orthopedic expert will evaluate and diagnose acute orthopedic injuries suffered in everyday life or playing sports, such as:

  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Bone fractures
  • Joint injuries

On Saturday mornings, a sports medicine physician will see athletes of all ages for any sports injury including:

  • Sports-related orthopedic injuries
  • Sports-related concussions
