There are plenty of intriguing storylines, starting with two of the top teams in Class 6.
Lee’s Summit North and Liberty North will kick off the season in style, as they did last year. But this time, it’ll be Lee’s Summit North who has home field advantage.
The Eagles and Broncos have lofty expectations headed into the 2023 season — as they’ve had the last few seasons, however, neither team has been able to close the deal, losing in the Class 6 state championship game to Christian Brothers the last two seasons.
While Liberty North and Lee’s Summit North are two of the clear-cut favorites to make it back to the Class 6 title game, one of the teams I’m keeping my eyes on this season is Blue Springs South.
The Jaguars are coming off a stellar first season under Alan Wilmes. Wilmes guided South to its first winning season since 2015.
Even though the Jaguars lost a number of contributors from last year's team, they’ve added a lot of young talent around a nucleus that should propel South back into the conversation of being one of the best teams in the state of Missouri.
Speaking of the state of Missouri, this season, there will be new districts. It’ll be interesting to see how those districts are broken down, and what schools are added to Class 6. One of the teams that will possibly be making the jump is Oak Park.
The Northmen had a breakthrough season under Ken Clemens in Class 5 last year.
How will the state organize the districts? That’s the question I have, but we won’t find out until mid-September most likely.
Will they have Blue Springs and Blue Springs South in the same district?
Will all of the Northland schools be in the same district?
