Keyshaun Elliott is a special player.

The Richmond quarterback put on a show against St. Michael the Archangel that left me speechless.

Elliott carried the ball six times for 209 yards and four touchdowns.

Yes, you read that correctly. He averaged 34.8 yards per carry on Friday. His shortest run of the night was his final run — a 6-yard touchdown up the gut.

He’s physically imposing. He runs through defenders who try to tackle him. His size, however, isn’t his best attribute is speed and shiftiness in the open field. He has the ability to make defenders miss by starting and stopping on a dime.

That was evident on his 91-yard touchdown run where he busted up the middle of the St Michael defense. He was surrounded by several would-be tacklers and caught a few out of position before scampering down the sideline for the touchdown.

On the season, Elliott has completed 55 of 101 passes for 999 yards and 15 touchdowns with zero interceptions. He’s also carried the ball 73 times for 741 yards and has scored 17 touchdowns.

Elliott has garnered a lot of interest from several D1 programs and who would blame them for offering an athlete such as Elliott?

Not only is Elliott a gifted athlete, he’s also an exceptional leader — both on and off the field. That’s what really impressed me about him. With the game in hand on Friday, Elliott stood on the sidelines and cheered on the younger players on his team.

Playoff news and notes:
Well, we’ve achieved the semifinals in Class 6 on the Missouri side and every class in Kansas. However, I want to spend some time breaking down the two semifinal games on the Missouri side because they are very intriguing.

Both Lee’s Summit North and Liberty North will travel to St. Louis this week.

The Broncos will have a chance to knock off perennial powerhouse Christian Brothers. I expected this matchup to happen at the beginning of the year. Christian Brothers, along with Lee’s Summit North, have been on top of Class 6 all year.

This game will provide a lot of fireworks and will feature a lot of talent on both sides of the ball.

The one advantage CBC has over Lee’s Summit North is experience in the postseason. CBC has that “been there, done that” mentality. While Lee’s Summit North is playing in its first ever semifinal appearance

On the other side of the bracket you have Liberty North and Troy-Buchanan.

The Eagles are no stranger to playing in the semifinals. This is their second consecutive appearance in the Class 6 semifinals. The Eagles appear to be on the right track to making their first ever appearance in the Class 6 state championship game.

Meanwhile, the Trojans upset Howell on Friday and earned the right to play one of, if not, the best team in Class 6 this season.

If I had to pick either game right now, I’d lean to both Lee’s Summit North and Liberty North winning and setting up a rematch from earlier in the season.
