Buckle up.

It’s about to get crazy.

This season, like every season, is flying by. It seems like yesterday I was at Raytown watching four teams show off what they have.

Fast forward to today, we have three weeks left in the regular season on the Missouri side and I’m left asking this question — who are the teams to beat?

In Class 6 it has to be Liberty North and Lee’s Summit North, right?

The Eagles 4-1 and are coming off an impressive showing against an improving Park Hill Trojans squad.

Lee’s Summit North is undefeated and hoping to stay perfect when the Broncos host — you guessed it — Liberty North on Friday. They’ve been on a crash course since the beginning of the season.

This game will have a lot of fireworks.

This game will have a lot of talent — especially at the quarterback position. The Eagles are led by Sam Van Dyne, while the Broncos are piloted by Tre Baker. Both have had exceptional seasons and show no signs of slowing down.

However, I think the game comes down to coaching. And right now, I think the Eagles have the edge with Greg Jones. Jones is a proven winner. He came into the season with six total returning starters on both sides of the ball, but this team is so well coached.

This game will determine who takes control in the Suburban Gold Conference, and I, for one, can’t wait to see what happens in this game.

In Class 5, it appears there are three teams on the Kansas City side that can make a deep run in the postseason. Fort Osage, Raytown and Platte County all appear to be good enough to make it state.

Platte County is talented, but young. Fort Osage is explosive, but a year away. Raytown, who missed several weeks due COVID-19, is also very good. They are the freshest of the three and play in a weaker district.

In Class 4, the favorite is Smithville. The Warriors are playing like a well-oiled machine at the moment. They’ve run through everyone they’ve played and appear to be ready to make another deep run in the playoffs.

Class 3 may be the most competitive class in the state. Why? Look at the teams.

Odessa is undefeated and is currently riding a lengthy win streak.

St. Pius X is another team to keep an eye on. The Warriors are coming off a shocking defeat at the hands of St. James.
