The Pleasant Ridge football team moved to 5-0 with a win at Maur Hill-Mount Academy on Friday night, topping the Junior Ravens 40-8 on the night.
“I’d been telling the kids all week long that I thought Maur Hill would bring it and they did play extremely hard,” Rams head coach Chris Powers said. “It was a fight there for a while, but we got it under control. I think our kids really stepped up to the challenge and played extremely hard.”
After both teams were scoreless in the first quarter, the Rams took over in the second with 19 points. Connor Culbertson caught 25-yard and 88-yard touchdown passes from Dalton Warden for the first two Pleasant Ridge scores. Tim Roberts added a five-yard touchdown run to end the half, and Cody Heim connected on the point-after kick to give the Rams the 19-0 halftime lead.
Warden added another score in the third quarter with a 38-yard touchdown run and the senior quarterback found Caleb Morandy in the end zone on the two-point conversion to make the Ridge lead 27-0 heading into the final 12 minutes of the game.
Maur Hill was able to score its only touchdown of the night to start the fourth quarter, quarterback Brock Hanf keeping it for a two-yard run and finding TJ Kockour on the two-point conversion. The Rams still had a couple scores left in them, however. Ridge capped the game with a pair of touchdown runs — a 33-yard scamper by Warden and a four-yard push by Roberts. Heim made another PAT kick to make the score its final 40-8.
