Lee's Summit West shuts out Winnetonka

Despite a flurry of penalties, the Lee’s Summit West Titans established a consistent running game and rode the strength of the defense for a 17-0 win Friday night at Winnetonka.
Head coach Royce Boehm said he knew all week the game was going to be closer than many thought.
“We kept telling the kids all week long that this was a damn good Winnetonka team and to not take them lightly,” Boehm said. “Our first drive was three-and-out and the kids came off the field a little confused.”
Marcus Strickland (6-yard run) and quarterback Luke Knott (55 yards) both scored rushing touchdowns for the Titans. Kicker Brad Clements added a 30-yard field goal. Boehm said penalties mired the game.
“When you have that many penalties it really drags the game down,” he said. Despite West have three touchdowns called back because of the dirty laundry, the Titan defense kept the Griffins at bay all night.
“Their first drive was pretty good and our kids held them on fourth-and-short, which was really good,” Boehm said.
West, now 4-1, hosts Truman for its Homecoming Sept. 30.
