GOWER, Mo. — East Buchanan took down previously downtrodden Lathrop with a 48-37 victory Friday night at East Buchanan High School.

The win didn’t come easy.

After snapping a 10-game losing streak last week, Lathrop looked to keep the momentum rolling in a KCI Conference matchup.

East Buchanan quarterback Cory Bower made sure the Mules wouldn’t make it a winning streak, completing 8-of-15 passes for 184 yards and four scores. He also ran for 120 yards on 21 carries.

The Bulldogs needed their prolific offense to off-set Lathrop’s stout run game.

On Lathrop’s first possession, the Mules used seven running plays featuring four different running backs to punch in their first score, setting the tone for their offense.

Shortening the game was a big part of the Lathrop coaching staff’s game plan, but the game just wasn’t short enough.

“We knew all along they run the ball very very well; they are very physical,” East Buchanan coach Kevin Bryan said. “I thought (Lathrop) did a nice job of running their offense. They run the ball very very well, and luckily, our offense was able to out score them.”
