Matt Tabor took his first full look at Benton’s two-headed quarterback attack.

The Cardinals coach liked what he saw in a 45-0 victory against Lincoln Prep on Friday night at Sparks Field. Tabor rotated seniors Chris Young and Trevor Peters on every series with the player not under center moving into the wide receiving corps.

Peters technically earned the start for a third straight week and completed 4-of-5 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown, which went to Young.

After missing 2½ weeks due to suspension, Young returned after halftime last week, and he threw 86 yards on 5-for-7 accuracy and two touchdowns. He also tossed an interception.

Now comes the quandary for Tabor as Benton (3-0) moves into the heart of the conference and district schedule.

“I know one thing. We’re not going to keep changing as much as we did tonight,” Tabor said. “It’s not fair to the kids. Again, they both offer us basically different things in the offense. I really think it’s really going to depend on the opponent. I really think that’s what it’s going to come down to.

“They both do good things.”

Benton’s depth at all offensive positions shown again in the dismantling of visiting Blue Tigers.

he Cardinals led 33-0 at halftime, and Lincoln Prep’s four first-half turnovers led to four Benton touchdowns behind a diverse attack.
