Benton hit the gas pedal against Bishop LeBlond and smashed it to the floor.

In the Cardinals’ 55-0 victory at Eagle Stadium, the Cardinals scored 34 points in the first quarter and scored all of their points in the first half.

Benton sophomore running back Dontae White carried the ball the first three plays from scrimmage and gained at least 14 yards on each try. He capped off the drive with an 8-yard run untouched into the end zone after only 2 ½ minutes went off the clock.

The quick start came after Benton dismantled Central (Kansas City) in last week’s opener.

“I really like where we are right now,” Benton coach Matt Tabor said.

Benton proceeded to score five touchdowns in the first quarter on helpless LeBlond (0-2, 0-2 MEC) including Lucas Powers’ 35-yard punt return for a touchdown. Atchison transfer Jared Ross also returned a punt for a score in the early-going, but it was called back due to a holding penalty.

“Everything happened so fast,” LeBlond coach Tony Dudik said.
