Each year the Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association recognizes four of its members for their outstanding work in their career.

A head and assistant coach from both side of the state line are given the Bassore Award. The Bassore awards are given in the name of Dave Bassore who was a long-time head coach at several places in the Metro. Bassore was the head coach at Olathe North before tragically dying in an automobile accident 13 years ago.

This year four coaches have been named as winners and will be honored at the Kansas vs. Missouri All-Star Game June 13 at CBAC in Olathe. This year’s Kansas winners are Shawnee Mission South Head Coach Brett Oberzan and Olathe West Assistant Coach Mike McLaughlin. The Missouri winners are former Pleasant Hill Head Coach Greg Smith and North Kansas City Assistant Coach Dan Joiner.
