Involved in everything

A successful football team is one where the players and coaches work together to achieve their goals.

While the bulk of the attention is given to those players and coaches there are plenty of other people who make a football team go every day of the season and the offseason.

One group of people that might just be the most important is the football moms. Whether it’s making meals that keep the player strong, doing that dirty laundry or giving the support that helps the player stay focused the football mom is in the silent force behind a successful football program.

Powerade wants to honor these unsung heroes with the Powerade Mom of the Week contest presented by Heartland Coca-Cola. Each week you can nominate a mother for the Powerade Mom of the Week presented by Heartland Coca-Cola by submitting an essay telling us why your mom’s impact is important to your individual or team success. Each week the winning essay will earn that team’s booster club a $500 courtesy of Powerade and Heartland Coca-Cola.

This week’s mom of the week is Kim Shoffner from Leavenworth. She was nominated by Pioneers coach Mark Littrell. Below is his nomination essay.

“Kim has been an active member of the Pioneer Football Booster Club for the past 4 years.  Her son, Austin, is a three-year varsity letterman and is a starter on the defensive line.

“Kim helps with all phases of the Pioneer Football Program. Kim has always volunteered her time for the booster club and for the football program. Kim has been the treasurer and vice president of our booster club. Kim coordinates the pre – game meals for all 3 of the Pioneer Football teams. Kim has also led the charge for our bake sales, golf tournament, Ft. Leavenworth garage sale, community service projects, and our Saturday morning breakfast for the varsity players.

“In addition to being involved with the Pioneer Football Booster Club, Kim is also the treasurer for the Leavenworth PTA, a member of the LHS Site Council, USD 453 Site Council, and is a part of the LHS Alumni Group.”

This is the final Mom of the Week for the 2018 season. Thanks to the winners, nominees and Powerade and Heartland Coca-Cola.
