Savannah struck early in the contest with a 65-yard touchdown run by Jadon Brady on the third play from scrimmage.

They never trailed after that.

Savannah knocked out St. Pius 50-10 to win Friday’s Class 3 district semifinal.

Coach Randy Schrader credited a second-half surge with better play from the offensive line and a great showing of effort from his players.

“It was an effort thing,” said Schrader. “Our kids decided that we needed to make some changes and do some things.”

The Warriors kicked a field goal after Brady’s bust that marked the score 6-3.

And after a fumble recovery, it appeared St. Pius (6-5) had the momentum. But Savannah came right back. It would strike again on its next opportunity.

Quarterback Chase Spoonemore connected with wide receiver Layne Anderson for a 69-yard touchdown to go up two scores.

St. Pius X would collect its first touchdown of the night with less than eight minutes left in the first half with a reception by Thomas Ringel.

Less than a minute later, the Savages (8-3) answered again with another Brady score — a 60-yard toss from Spoonemore.

As the first half wound down, running back Titan Irvine left the game with an apparent leg injury. Despite his absence, the Savages scored once more with a 1-yard touchdown reception by Blayne Nelson.
