Class 6A
Gardner-Edgerton 55, Blue Valley Northwest 27
Gardner-Edgerton moves on the regionals of the Kansas Class 6A playoff bracket with a convincing 55-27 win over Blue Valley Northwest Friday night. The game was never in doubt win the Trailblazers led 35-7 at the half.

Gardner-Edgerton (9-0) racked up 464 yards of total offense with 310 of it coming on the ground. Jacob Hunsperger led the way with 153 yards and three touchdowns. Luke Jennings chipped in with 75 yards and a score and quarterback Teve McKelvey also ran for 60 yards and a touchdown. He even threwfor another. Not to be outdone, Tyler Goetzman was two for two from under center, and both of those completions were into the end zone.

Next up, the Trailblazers take on Shawnee Mission Northwest in the regionals next Friday. Blue Valley Northwest's season ends at 0-9.

Olathe East 31, Blue Valley 21
Little did the players and coaches know that the 10 points Olathe East scored in the first quarter of their Kansas Class 6A playoff matchup would be the deciding factor in its 31-21 win over Blue Valley. After those 10 points, the two teams traded touchdowns for the next three quarters, but the Hawks (4-5) made it hold up and will be playing Shawnee Mission East in the next round next Friday.

On the stat sheet, it was all one-sided in Blue Valley's favor, but going back to that first quarter, a Ma'rrell Fountain six-yard touchdown run and Spencer Grosz 20-yard field goal turned out to be the difference. Fountain finished the night with just 67 yards on the ground. Hawks quarterback Hunter Thomas was 12 of 20 through the air for 236 yards and two touchdowns to Ray Lewis who snagged four balls for 152 yards.

Blue Valley's season ends at 4-5.

Class 5A
Shawnee Heights 10, Blue Valley Southwest 9
Shawnee Heights won a nail biter over Blue Valley Southwest Friday night 10-9 to open the Kansas Class 5A state playoffs. The T-Birds move on the regional round to face DeSoto next Friday Night.

Shawnee Heights improves to 5-4, while the Timberwolves ended their season at 3-7.

Schlagle 46, Leavenworth 28
Schlagle had no problem with Leavenworth Friday night in their first round Kansas Class 5A playoff game, dispatching the Pioneers 46-28.

The victory moves Schlagle to 6-3 and sets up a regional contest with upstart Olathe West next Friday night. Leavenworth ends its season at 1-8.

Olathe West 27, Washington 20
In its first year as a varsity program, Olathe West won its first playoff game Friday night 27-20 over the Washington Wildcats in a Kansas Class 5A battle.

The Owls (3-6) held off a late surge from Washington but remained in control through much of the game leading 13-6 at the half and 27-14 after three quarters. Running back Gavin McDaniel rushed for 228 yards on 36 attempts and two touchdowns while quarterback Zac Krause was 15 of 23 for 118 yards and two touchdowns both to Ryan Wallace in the second quarter.

The victory puts Olathe West in the next round of the playoffs against Schlagle. Washington ends its season at 4-5.

Basehor-Linwood 44, Eudora 16
Marlon McDaniel rushed for three touchdowns in leading the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats to a 44-16 win over Eudora in the opening round of the Kansas Class 4A playoffs Friday night. Nolan Ford also grounded out another score, but the Bobcats also were able to capitalize through the air as well.

Quarterback Dylan Mussett threw for 251 yards and a score, connecting with Dylan Donnelly who had six catches for 135 yards.

The victory improves Basehor-Linwood to 8-1 and sets up a regional round game with Fort Scott next Friday night. Eudora finishes its season at 1-8.
