Taylor finalists catching passes, attention
By Dion Clisso PrepsKC Managing Editor Taylor Award Finalists Ryan Murphy, junior, wide receiver, Basehor-Linwood Basehor-Linwood went undefeated in the regular season and won the very competitive Kaw Valley League. Ryan Murphy was a key part of the offense that helped lead them to the league title. The junior caught 47 passes for 1,007 yards and 10 touchdowns in only nine games. He missed one and half games due to injury and was the main target for his twin brother Colin Murphy who was the bobcats quarterback. Tre Parmalee, senior, wide receiver, Bishop Miege Parmalee was one of the main weapons for a dynamic Bishop Miege offensive attack that was one of the most prolific in the Metro. The senior was the big target for standout quarterback Max Shortell. Parmalee finished with 67 catches, 983 yards and seven touchdowns as the Stags went 6-4 and won a district title before falling in the first round to eventual Class 5A state champion Blue Valley. Sam Sealer, senior, wide receiver, Lee’s Summit Lee’s Summit was one of the top offenses in the Metro led by Missouri recruit and Simone finalist Corbin Berkstresser. When Berkstresser looked to throw, Sam Sealer was one of his main targets. Sealer finished his senior year with 77 catches, 1,065 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had 210 yards rushing and two touchdowns on the ground. Sealer’s biggest game of the year came in a shootout with Blue Springs where he finished with 17 catches, 272 yards and four touchdowns. Trevor Vogelsmeier, senior, wide receiver, Raymore-Peculiar Simone finalists Cameron Coffman’s favorite receiver had an outstanding senior year. Voglesmeier finished the season 64 catches 1,061 yards and 13 touchdowns. In two separate games this year Voglesmeier had four touchdowns. In a season where the Panthers finished 6-5, Coffman and Voglesmeier were the main reasons Ray-Pec was a playoff team.
