The Maryville Spoofhounds reclaimed their spot on top of the MEC with 27-7 win over the Lafayette Fighting Irish on Friday night, cementing an outright conference championship.

The Spoofhounds started fast and never trailed.

With junior Tyler Haer stepping in to play quarterback and senior running back Eli Dowis sidelined with an injury, the Spoofhounds continued to find production from different spots.

Junior Korbin Koch got the scoring started for Maryville with a 54-yard touchdown run. Senior Tyler Hounchin made it 14-0 on the next drive with a 4-yard touchdown run of his own.

"Championships are won by teams, not individuals," Maryville coach Matt Webb said. "We stepped up big time as a team (Friday). Every kid that dressed out has a huge role and I'm very proud of them."

After a strip sack from Alex Phelan got the Irish some momentum in the second quarter, Maryville's Aiden Cullin had his first of two interceptions deep in Spoofhound territory. On the following play, Cullin broke off a 59-yard run.

"We knew Lafayette is a really good team so we just wanted to come out and be as physical and fast as possible," Cullin said. "We accomplished that."

Houchin capped off the drive with an 11-yard touchdown run, putting the Spoofhounds up 21-0.
