Trailing 35-7 entering the fourth quarter on Friday night, it would have been easy for the No. 5 ranked De Soto Wildcats to call it quits and pack up against Basehor-Linwood. The Wildcats however showed fight like a state contender should as they nearly pulled off a comeback, falling 35-287.

Jackson Miller ignited the comeback effort scoring on a 20-yard run. After Basehor fumbled the ensuing kick, De Soto had another shot to trim the lead. Miller this time connected with Keegan Sturdy on a 23-yard TD pass as De Soto trailed 35-21.

A stop by the De Soto defense gave the Wildcat offense another chance to tally points, and that’s just what the Wildcats did as Miller added another touchdown, this time to Connor Flynn. Despite the ferocious rally, Basehor remained tough and pulled out the victory.

Dylan Mussett led the Bobcats finishing 11-19 with 140 yards and one touchdown. Marlon McDaniel carried the load on the ground racking up 129 yards on 21 carries with one touchdown. Defensivley the Bobcats were anchored by Kyle Alcanter who finished with 8.5 tackles on the night.

Miller paced De Soto on the night finishing 12-28 with 176 yards and two touchdowns. Miller also led the team in rushing finishing with 80 yards on 12 carries.

Basehor-Linwood (5-1) will head to Atchison, while De Soto (5-1) will hit the road to meet Shawnee Heights.
