Spring sports are in full swing across the Metro and while some athletes are hitting the field for the first time this school year, many more are tackling their second or even third sport of the year.

In a time when club coaches all over the country are talking about specialization as the best way to succeed in a sport, the numbers are showing across the board that the multi-sport athlete are the ones college coach are searching out.

Here is a video from Dr. Vincent Key from the Sports Medicine and Performance Center at the University of Kansas Health System. Dr. Key is the team doctor for the Kansas City Royals and discusses the benefits of multi-sport athletes in baseball.

While developing different skills are key for athletes, another problem is overuse injuries. When an athlete plays one sport year-round the same muscle groups and ligaments get used over and over.

Here is a video from Dr. Jeff Randall an orthopedic surgeon with the Sports Medicine and Performance Center at the University of Kansas Health System talking about overuse injuries.
