The football season is over and now is the time to take a look at coaching movement across the Metro.

This year’s list is mainly made up of schools looking for new coaches after veteran head coaches retired. A few of those have already been filled. Lawrence saw the retirement of one hall of fame coach and replaced him with another as Steve Rampy returned to the high school ranks to take over for Dirk Wedd.

Another retired coach will be returning to the sideline at Shawnee Mission East. Former Staley and Harrisonville coach Fred Bouchard was named as the Lancers’ new head coach Monday night taking over for Dustin Delaney who resigned after the season.

Gardner-Edgerton turned to Hutchinson coach Ryan Cornelson to replace Marvin Diener who retired at the end of the season. Another member of the Rampy family joined the Sunflower League as Steve’s son Zach took over at Shawnee Mission North where he was an assistant for Ben Bartlett.

At Eudora Phil Katzenmeier retired after the season and the Cardinals named Augusta Coordinator Sean Hayden as their next head coach. Olathe Northwest also went out of the area hiring Aaron Hafner to replace the retiring Chip Sherman. Hafner comes from Luther College in Iowa but is a Kansas native and has been an assistant at Webb City as well as a head coach at Francis Howell Central in St. Louis and Riverton in Kansas.

The only current Kansas opening is at Piper where Chris Brindle stepped down at the end of the season. On the Missouri side both Chillicothe and Richmond are looking for new coaches. Chillicothe’s Phil Willard and Richmond’s Rob Bowers both retired at the end of the year.
