Blue Valley North emphatically ended Shawnee Mission East's seven-game win streak with a 45-10 win in the Class 6A Playoffs on Friday night at Shawnee Mission North High School.

The Mustangs couldn't have asked for a better start to the game as they outscored the Lancers 21-3 in the first quarter.

Senior running back Anthony Bragulla broke loose for the game's first TD and gave the visitors a 7-0 lead at 9:38 of the first.

On the next possession, East fumbled and Miles Emery came up with the recovery for the Mustangs. Graham Mertz connected with Cameron Burt on a 3rd-and-long play to put North up 14-0.

Parker Willis' field goal with 3:18 to play in the first got East on the board, but another TD pass by Mertz had the Mustangs ahead by 18 (21-3), after one.

The lead grew to 28-3 after another North touchdown pass at the 9:23 mark of the second.

Milton Braasch's TD plunge with 4:19 to go in the half made the score 28-10, but the Mustangs had the last word as Mertz threw his fourth score of the first half to Dylan Freberg.

At the half, North led 35-10.

In the second half, the Mustangs scored a TD and a field goal and held the Lancers scoreless ensuring there would be no miraculous comeback on this night.

Blue Valley North (7-4) advances to sub-state and will try to avenge an early-season loss as they face Blue Valley (8-3) next Friday night with a spot in the state championship on the line.
