Starting with the first week of the season on both sides of the state line PrepsKC will announce a Papa John’s Player of the Week. Each week those players will be highlighted on and in their local Papa John’s location.

A player of the week will be awarded for all nine weeks of the regular season. At the end of the Kansas regular season a Papa John’s Player of the Year will be selected from the weekly winners. The Players of the year will each receive a pizza party for their team at the end of the season.

Below is this week’s Papa John’s Player of the Week

Jack Petz, senior running back St. James Academy

The senior carried the ball 31 times for 186 yards and two touchdowns to lead The Thunder to a 42-35 win over Blue Valley West.

Michael Muehlberger, senior defensive back Blue Springs South

The Jaguars strong safety almost single-handed led South to a 48-20 victory over Francis Howell in the first round of the Class 6 district playoffs. Muehlberger had three pick sixes and a fumble return for a touchdown to account for 24 of the team’s 48 points.
