East Buchanan’s Senior Night, the Bulldogs flexed their muscles.

“We talked about how they were going to come down and smack us in the mouth and that we had to smack them right back,” East Buch coach Kevin Bryan said. “I thought all night long, we did that.”

The Bulldogs delivered a gutsy 34-26 win over Lathrop on Friday night and move one step closer to clinching the KCI title.

“We matched them blow for blow,” Bryan said. “Our kids handled adversity and I’m just so proud of my kids tonight.”

For Lathrop (6-2, 4-2 KCI), the Mules sparked the scoreboard with explosive and timely plays.

A 61-yard dash up the middle from junior Justin Wright, resulting in a touchdown, began the scoring for both sides.

This to go along with a 68-yard touchdown pass from senior Brock Lewis to junior Hunter Sloan placed the Mules just three points behind East Buch at the half.

A 21-yard field goal from Lathrop junior Justin Burns evened the score early in the fourth quarter.

But with less than 6 minutes remaining, East Buch (7-1, 6-0 KCI) readied itself for what was the game-winning drive.

Starting at their own 40-yard line, the Bulldogs marched down the field to the Mule's 10 and with 3:14 to go, where junior Tyler Schottel made a play.

As the East Buch quarterback took the shotgun snap, the junior quickly realized that the pocket had collapsed around him.
